A heartwarming moment where fellow footballers celebrated Luke Fleurs’s new car – a red VW Golf 8 GTI – has gone viral. This week, the Kaizer Chiefs player was gunned down during a botched hijacking.
At the time of the tragedy, the soccer star had driven his car to a petrol station in Honeydew, Johannesburg.
The 24-year-old had signed a deal moving from SuperSport United to Amakhosi late last year but had yet to make his playing debut.

According to Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo, the Kaizer Chiefs footballer had driven his car to the nearest petrol station when he was ambushed.
Masondo told IOL: “While waiting to be served by the petrol attendant, he was confronted by two armed males who came driving a white BMW 1 Series.
“The suspects pointed him with a firearm and took him out of his vehicle. Then shot him once on the upper body. One suspect drove off with the victim’s car, followed by his accomplice.”
Luke was rushed to the nearest hospital but was certified dead on arrival.

‘CLOSE TO MAKING HIS DEBUT’
Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs paid tribute to Luke Fleurs in a moment of silence and prayer session at the club’s village in Naturena.
Kaizer Junior Motaung said in a press statement: “I think we are shocked in disbelief and have a lot of anger at the same time.
“It was a very sombre day at the village. We’ve never experienced anything like this, losing a squad player. It’s been a difficult day.
“Luke had a radiant smile and was loved by all the players. He was a great professional and never complained or sulked when not picked.
Motaung added that Luke Fleurs was “close to making his debut”. He added that the young player would have likely been spotted at the Kaizer Chiefs vs Chippa United game in East London this weekend.
A moment of silence and a prayer session was held at the Kaizer Chiefs Village yesterday afternoon in remembrance of the late Kaizer Chiefs player, Luke Fleurs.
Rest in peace Luke.❤️#Amakhosi4Life pic.twitter.com/suyVX2froH
