Coosal saluted on achieving TTMA’s Lifetime Achievement Award…

A visionary leader and an embodiment of resilience.

These were among the accolades showered on chief executive officer of the Coosal’s Group of Companies Sieunarine Coosal last week by businessmen Arthur Lok Jack and Ronald Harford as Coosal received the Trinidad and Tobago Manufacturers’ Association Lifetime Achievement Award 2023.

Also receiving the award was businessman Langston Roach.

In his tribute, Lok Jack acknowledged Coosal as “a remarkable individual among us, a colleague, and friend who has dedicated decades of unwavering commitment to the business world” and “a visionary leader”.

Lok Jack said: “In the grand tapestry of our professional lives, certain individuals stand out, not just for their accomplishments but for the profound impact they leave on those around them….Sieu has been a stalwart presence in the business landscape for many years. He has not merely weathered the storms; he has navigated with exceptional skill, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to quality and innovation.”

Lok Jack said the lifetime recognition from the TTMA was not just an award but “a testament to Sieu’s tireless efforts, innovative thinking, and unwavering dedication to the principles of excellence that define the business sector…Beyond the accolades and certificates lies a story of late nights, early mornings, and countless hours of hard work. It’s a story of tough decisions, bold risks, and the kind of leadership that inspires others to reach higher. He has not only been a driving force within his organisation but has also significantly contributed to the growth and betterment of the entire sector. What truly sets him apart is not just his business acumen but also his ability to lead.”

Harford: Illustrious journey

Harford described Coosal as “an embodiment of resilience and unwavering dedication, whose illustrious journey from humble beginnings to dynamic and highly successful businessman inspires us all”.

He said Coosal’s belief that social and economic conditions at birth need not dictate one’s future has been a driving force throughout his life.

“Despite humble beginnings and a lack of tertiary training, he heads one of the leading construction companies in Trinidad and Tobago, setting a standard of excellence for all. Under his visionary leadership, the Coosal’s Group of Companies has evolved significantly,” he said.

Rising from the role of an “office boy” over 45 years ago, he became chairman and chief executive officer in 1991, showcasing his unrelenting dedication to growth and innovation, he added.

According to Harford, Coosal’s success is a result of his ability to champion teamwork, collaboration, and diversification.

Further, he said Coosal’s induction into the Business Hall of Fame by the Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce highlights his exceptional business acumen, leadership, and unwavering commitment to social responsibility. “He is a pioneer, astute strategist, philanthropist, and role model for emerging business professionals. In the last 18 months, Sieunarine’s leadership expanded the Coosal’s presence into Guyana, with a commitment to growth, housing initiatives, and community development. His partnership with various institutions and his support for Habitat for Humanity reflect his unwavering commitment to alleviating poverty and improving living conditions,” Harford said.

On Republic Day, Coosal was presented with the nation’s second-highest award: the Chaconia Medal Gold.
