Iarnród Éireann has launched a major new recruitment drive in a bid to hire up to 100 new train drivers.
The positions are available in seven locations around the country, with salaries rising to €63,000.
It comes as the train service continues to invest in its network, fleet and customer service in a bid to become the “backbone of Ireland’s sustainable transport network”.
The new roles are available in Dublin – on the Fairview/Bray and Connolly/Heuston DART services – Athlone, Cork, Limerick, Galway, Waterford and Westport.
Irish Rail said the roles offer career progression opportunities as well as access to a company pension, income continuance, welfare schemes and reduced fares across the network.
Career progression
Iarnród Éireann CEO Jim Meade said the positions offer “excellent progression opportunities”.
“With the planned expansion of services as part of the National Development Plan, it is an exciting time to become part of a growing organisation,” he said.
“We are a diverse and inclusive employer and in particular we urge more women to apply for driver roles and are encouraged by the increasing interest from women in recent recruitment drives.
“We don’t just offer jobs, we offer careers and opportunity.
“I myself joined the railway as an Apprentice, and with a European Railway and CIPD-award winning Talent Management function within Iarnród Éireann, we believe we stand alongside any organisation in enabling our people to make the most of their potential.”
Irish Rail
Irish Rail said it has ordered 185 new carriages as part of its investment plan up to 2030 – with a further 750 carriages planned over the coming decade.
It also aims to treble the electrification and double the capacity of its Greater Dublin Area service – with infrastructure works to extend the DART to Maynooth / M3 Parkway, Drogheda and Hazelhatch lines.
It has also confirmed investment in services in Cork, Galway, Limerick and Waterford as well as the Intercity network.
Applications for the driver positions are now open here.
