Couple called Mrs and Mrs White Christmas are never believed when they say their names

You’d think Mr and Mrs White-Christmas would get sick of being asked about their surname, but they’re taking it all in good humour and they both adore the festive period

We’re all dreaming of a white Christmas, just like the ones we used to know, and with every Christmas card we write – but can you imagine the questions you’d get asked if your surname was White-Christmas?

Well, that’s a reality for Mr and Mrs White-Christmas, who say that they love their festive name, despite the fact that strangers are often convinced that it’s “fake.” Kieran White, 23, and Tilly Christmas, 24, tied the knot in November 2020, making them the UK’s first Mr and Mrs White-Christmas. They’re now celebrating three years of marriage, and they say that their last name is still “special” and a “laugh.”

The couple, who live in Crewkerne, Somerset, are asked about their surname daily but say it hasn’t got “annoying yet”, and they see it as a “laugh”, as they find themselves in bizarre situations due to the moniker.

“We had a pizza takeaway cancel on us once – they thought it was a fake name”, Kieran admitted. “It’s not got annoying yet. Everyone loves it. It’s never a negative thing.” Tilly, a sustainability analyst, said: “We work client-facing – they always say ‘I’m sorry but I have to ask about your name’. It’s so much fun.”

Kieran and Tilly fell for each other as teenagers at the same school in Bridport, Dorset, after meeting at just 12 years old. Kieran decided to propose to Miss Christmas during the festive holidays in Glasgow, Scotland, back in 2018, and the childhood sweethearts were married on November 3, 2020, at the Roman Baths in Bath, Somerset.

When discussing surname options, the Christmas lovers felt double-barrelling their surnames couldn’t be more perfect. Tilly said: “We didn’t actually twig what our last names would be when we got together until a friend shared a photo of us from prom with the hashtag #WhiteChristmas. I wanted to keep the surname Christmas for a few reasons – I’ve always loved having it as a last name throughout my life and I really love Christmas time as well. It just so happens that the man I’ve married has the perfect surname to go with it.”

Kieran said the name took some time to adjust to but he now wouldn’t change it. He said: “A lot of people called me ‘Christmas’. They’d just say ‘hi Christmas’. “

The couple would like to start a family in the future but plan to be careful with their first name choices. Tilly said: “We’re going to try to avoid anything that could be seen as Christmas.” Kieran joked: “I wanted to name them Avery Mary. So it would sound like ‘a very merry White Christmas’. White Christmas is mean enough for them.”
