Irish Times Consumer Correspondent Conor Pope urged people to be wary of getting too eager on Cyber Monday.
“The deal is only a deal if you need the product, if you really want the product, and you can actually afford the product,” he said.
“Repeated studies have shown the products on sale this weekend and the weekend just gone are going to be on sale for the same price after that.”
He recommended people shop Irish – both to support local businesses and to avoid high delivery costs from international shops.
“If you’re looking at a product that says it’s €100 and you think that’s great, the product might actually cost you €150 when the taxes and charges you have to pay further down the road are factored into it,” he said.
If you end up buying something in a haste and regret your purchase, Mr Pope said you’re well within your right to return any Cyber Monday buys.
“Under consumer law, if you buy something online you can return it for whatever reason you want within 14 days of buying the product,” he said.
He pointed out, no matter the time of year, shops that have signs like ‘No return on sales products’ are illegal.
