A man has died following a collision involving a car and a bicycle which happened on Sunday morning in Co Kildare.
Gardaí and emergency services are currently attending the scene of the incident at Knocknagee, which is close to Carlow Town.
The collision, which involved a car and a bicycle happened at around 11.20 am.
The man aged in his 60s, who was a cyclist, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
His body has since been removed to Naas General Hospital where a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.
A garda spokesperson said that no other injuries were reported.
The road is currently closed for Forensic Collision Investigators to carry out a technical examination. Local diversions are in place.
The cyclist’s death brings the number of people who have died on the roads so far this year to 58. On Saturday evening, a teenager was killed following a collision involving a car in Co Mayo.
The incident happened at around 9.20pm at Barnacarroll, Claremorris, Co Mayo.
A major nationwide crackdown on road safety is continuing today with Gardaí out in force across the Easter Bank Holiday Weekend.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.
“Any road users or pedestrians who may have camera footage (including dash-cam), and who were travelling in the area of Knocknagee, Co. Kildare, today, Sunday 31st March 2024, between 10.30am and 11.30am, are asked to make this footage available to gardaí,” the garda spokesperson said.
