Delhi Water Minister Atishi on Saturday blamed the neighbouring state Haryana for the ongoing water crisis in the national capital as she highlighted the issue of reduced water releases from the Munak Canal.
In a video address, Atishi alleged that Haryana has reduced the release of water from Munak Canal despite severe heatwave and water shortages in Delhi.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader appealed to the Haryana government to stop “politicising” the crisis and release Delhi’s full share of water. The minister even warned that all areas of the national capital would face severe shortages in the coming days if the situation did not improve.
“Haryana is not releasing its 1050 cusecs of water from Munak Canal. In the coming two days, there will be a shortage of water in every area of Delhi,” she said.
“If Haryana was letting out the required amount of water, then how is the water disappearing? Haryana is not giving Delhi its share of the water,” Atishi asked.
Amid the ongoing crisis in Delhi, news agency ANI shared a video of people climbing on water trucks to collect water. Residents were seen collecting water in buckets for their daily use.

The blame game continues on water
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday demanded that the Delhi Assembly speaker call a special session of the House to discuss the ongoing “water crisis” in the city that it blamed on the AAP government’s “mismanagement”.
Ajay Mahawar, BJP Chief Whip in the Delhi Assembly, wrote a letter to Speaker Ram Niwas Goel, requesting to immediately call a special session to discuss and find a solution to this crisis.
The session in the Delhi Assembly must also discuss providing relief to the people from this disaster caused by the “mismanagement” of the Delhi government and the Delhi Jal Board, said Mahawar.
On Thursday, the Supreme Court observed the acute shortage of water and directed the Himachal Pradesh government to release 137 cusecs of surplus water to the national capital and Haryana to facilitate its flow.
