This is the shocking moment a group of diners began vomiting blood after they were served dry ice as a ‘mouth freshener’ at a restaurant.
Five people became seriously ill after they were served a ‘sugar and spice’ mix in La Forestta Cafe, in Gurugram, India.
A search is underway for the owner of the cafe, after the manager was arrested and charged with ‘poisoning with the intent to cause hurt or harm’, according to the BBC.
After the group finished their meal, a waiter allegedly gave them a packet of ‘mouth freshener’ – which was actually dry ice.
Their mouths began to bleed and burn, and many began vomiting, while staff refused to help them, according to a police statement.
Dry ice is often used for its cooling properties, but if ingested, it can cause frostbite, respiratory issues and internal organ damage.
If a large amount is ingested, it could lead to death – but the group are not in critical condition.
In 2020, a dry ice stunt resulted in the deaths of three people at a blogger’s party in Russia.
Dry ice was thrown into a pool, leaving victims unable to breathe and some left with chemical burns.
The party was for well-known blogger Ekaterina Didenko, who was celebrating her 29th birthday.
Her husband Valentin Didenko was among three fatalities after he unloaded 25 kg of dry ice to create a dramatic ‘visual effect’ intended to impress guests at the party held in a Moscow pool and sauna complex.
