JOHANNESBURG – The Information Regulator has slapped the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development with a R5-million administrative fine.
The penalty follows the department’s failure to comply with an enforcement notice issued by the Regulator earlier this year.
The enforcement notice was issued after the department contravened various sections of the Protection of Personal Information Act.

According to the Information Regulator, the department was required to submit proof that it had renewed its Trend antivirus, SIEM license and Intrusion Detection System license
It also required the department to take disciplinary action against the officials who failed to renew the licenses.
