On June 12, the Ukrainian Ministry of Infrastructure signed an agreement with Moldova to build a two-lane, 1.4km bridge across the Dniester river between Cosăuţi and Vinnytsia Oblast.
While the bridge will be jointly financed by Ukraine and Moldova, the agreement highlights the urgent need for alternative routes for Ukrainian exports to third markets. Although Europe has invested substantially in Moldova’s road and transport infrastructure since the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, more is needed. European institutions should expand investment in Moldova’s road infrastructure, providing a lifeline for Ukrainian exports while transforming Moldova into a key staging ground for future Ukrainian reconstruction efforts.
