Outbound passengers will soon be able to go through departure at Incheon International Airport having their face scanned without having to present passports or boarding passes.
The “smart pass” service to be launched later this month will allow passengers who register their biometric data to pass through the departure area and boarding gate based on facial recognition technology, Incheon International Airport Corporation said Sunday.
Passengers can then also use an exclusive departure gate.
But they still have to present their passport when they go through immigration.
From Monday, people can download the ICN Smartpass app from Google’s Play Store or Apple’s App Store, register their information and have a photo of their face taken with their phone camera.
