A dog owner has been left heartbroken after her pet was stolen and its body found tied up, with indications of torture, and dumped at sea.

Koby, an American Staffordshire Terrier, was stolen from the home of his owners David and Denis Thorsveld on Holmes Street in Brighton, in Brisbane’s north on July 22.

Neighbours reported seeing two men, who were driving an SUV, lure the dog away from its owner’s property and drive away.

The body of Koby, an American staffy was found at a beach in Brisbane’s north after he was horrifically murdered by two strangers who stole the pet dog from the home of Tori Hornsveld

Eight days later, a couple who were fishing on the platform off the Ted Smout Bridge in Moreton Bay – just over two kilometres from the Hornsveld’s home – saw the bloodied body of the dog in the water.

They took photos and posted them on a Facebook page for lost and found pets.

The Hornsveld’s daughter Tori Hornsveld had contacted police, local pounds and the RSPCA during the search for Koby, and when notified of the Facebook pictures, she followed it up and confirmed that the microchip in the body matched that of the family’s pet.

‘For everyone who helped me search, thankyou, and to the low life who murdered an innocent animal, I hope you rot,’ she said.

The grieving owners are still coming to terms with the death of Koby, who was affectionately known as the ‘Brighton Houdini’ for his capacity to regular escape the property.

The staffy was courted by the two men after the thieves lured the animal from the front yard of it’s owner property and gave it a pat and a cuddle before driving away with the dog and killing it before it was found dumped at a beach

‘How could someone do that to an innocent animal, I really don’t understand’ Ms Hornsveld told news.com.au

[T]hey spent time approaching the dog, patted him tried to give him a cuddle [sic] and lured him towards the car,’ she wrote.

The heartbroken owner of Koby, Tori Hornsveld said she was left distraught after losing her pet and said she couldn’t come to terms with why someone would harm an innocent dog

‘Initial reports indicate that between 2pm and 3pm two men entered the yard and took the animal which was later located deceased,’  a spokeswoman from Queensland Police said.

‘Anyone with information is urged to contact police.’

The tragedy had prompted Ms Hornsveld to start a new Facebook page to help others who’s pets have gone missing or have been stolen.

She said she doesn’t want anyone to go through what she did after losing her beloved Koby.

‘Nobody should have to endure this sort of pain, I would like to believe your pets are like your children,’ she said.
