Titled “Children of Sin”, the documentary delves into the life of Siham, a courageous single mother who, after being disowned by her family for bearing her rapist’s child, confronts the societal condemnation that denies recognition and rights to children born out of wedlock. Through the lens of the late activist Aicha Chenna, the film captures the journey of defiance and resilience as she fights to restore the dignity of these unwed women.
In Moroccan society, the consequences of having a child while unmarried are devastating, leading to a bleak future for both mother and child. Children born out of wedlock are denied legal status, while their mothers often face limited job opportunities, forced into low-level housekeeping work to make ends meet. The stigma attached to unwed motherhood is so severe that some women even choose to hide their children from their own families.
