Former One Direction star Liam Payne has been rushed to hospital after becoming ill during a holiday in Italy.
Payne, 30, was with girlfriend Kate Cassidy at Lake Como when he began experiencing “agonising” kidney pain.
The singer recently had to postpone a South American solo tour after suffering from a serious kidney infection.

“It’s with a heavy heart I have to tell you that we have no other choice but to postpone my upcoming tour of South America,” he wrote in a statement at the time.
“It’s something I wouldn’t wish on anyone, and doctors orders are that I now need to rest and recover.”
A source told The Sun that the One Direction star was currently “in a bad way.”
“Liam is in a bad way but he’s in the best place he can be and finally doctors will be able to get to the bottom of what is going on,” the source said.
“Naturally he is gutted that his and Kate’s trip to Lake Como has been ruined but at least she was there to help him when he fell ill.
“Doctors have warned him not to expect to be signed off to go home for at least another six days.
“They want to do every test possible to understand the issue fully but they now suspect that there has been an underlying issue for a while that has been getting worse.”

Payne has suffered from poor health since he was a child.
He was born prematurely and suffered from scarred kidneys, spending long bouts of his childhood in hospital.
“I effectively died as a baby,” he revealed in a 2011 interview.
“I was born three weeks early and I kept being ill.
“From the age of zero to four I was always in hospital having tests done but they couldn’t find out what was wrong.”

Payne has also been in and out of rehab, once spending 100 days in a Louisiana facility after hitting “rock bottom.”
In a July 2023 interview, he revealed that he had minimal contact with the outside world during that time.
When he left rehab, he had been sober for six months.
“There is a point when you hit rock bottom and you realise you have got to do something different as whatever you are doing right now isn’t working for you,” he said.
“I was in bad shape up until that point.”

Payne has previously admitted that he drank heavily during his One Direction days, frequently emptying out minibars during the band’s sellout world tours.
He said he had to take time out after One Direction disbanded in 2015.
“I kind of became somebody who I didn’t really recognise anymore,” he said.
