Nigerian sensation Temilade Openiyi, better known as Tems on Sunday night secured her fourth BET held at the Peacock Theater in Downtown Los Angeles.
TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that the Grammy winner claimed the Dr. Bobby Jones Best Gospel/Inspirational Award for her 2023 hit, “Me & U,” beating out notable artists like Kirk Franklin, CeCe Winans, and Maverick City Music.
South African star, Tyla, also enjoyed a successful night, winning Best New Artist and Best International Act.
However, other Nigerian music stars faced tough competition at this year’s BET Awards as Ayra Starr and Asake lost the Best International Act to South Africa’s Tyla.
Burna Boy, another prominent Nigerian nominee, was defeated by Usher for Best Male R&B/Pop Artist and by Kendrick Lamar for Best Hip-Hop Artist.
The BET Awards, founded in 2001 by Black Entertainment Television, celebrate the achievements of Black entertainers and other underrepresented groups in music, film, sports, and philanthropy.
