I WRITE in response to Fitzgerald Hinds’ column in yesterday’s Express, titled “Saving our Carnival”.
While I agree with most of what Hinds shared in his contribution in the newspaper regarding our Carnival, I cannot help but point out that Hinds and company have been in charge for close to nine years in a row now, and before the five-year break of the People’s Partnership, a further nine to ten years before that.
So having been in charge for close to two decades since the turn of the century, whatever shortcomings in culture, health, education, the economy and, yes, national security that exist must fall squarely on Hinds and the other PNM (People’s National Movement) ministers, especially Dr Keith Rowley, the man currently at the helm.
But I should not be surprised as this is exactly what this Rowley-led PNM has done for close to a decade. Professional problem-finders, not professional problem-solvers, they act as if they have now taken over governance and, worst yet, try to convince citizens they bear little to no responsibility for the poor state we find ourselves in.
It would be like a family living in a house for nine years and complaining to a neighbour that the walls are smeared, furniture is broken, dirty laundry is strewn everywhere, the sink is filled with dirty wares, and there is a pile of rubbish in the living room that is choking with its stench.
Yes, there is. We agree with you. But it is deceptive, disingenuous and downright disrespectful to all of us to pretend that you do not have a major part to play in the state of the home.
