Steve Harley was worth £3.1million when he died, official documents reveal.
The Cockney Rebel icon ran Comeuppance Ltd which took in cash from his music-making, touring and merchandise. Annual accounts filed to Companies House show for the 12 months to the end of January last year, the firm had £3.1m in cash and assets. The outfit also had a corporation tax bill of more than £500,000.
Steve died aged 73 at his home in Suffolk on Sunday after a battle with cancer. His daughter Greta wrote in a statement: “We know he will be desperately missed by people all over the world.” Just weeks ago, Steve’s team told how he was hoping to go back on the road despite his illness.
They wrote: “Due to ongoing treatment for cancer, Steve cannot commit to any concerts in 2024. He is hoping next year will be altogether different.” Steve, who battled polio and was treated numerous times in hospital for the disease as a child, enjoyed success in the early 1970s as the singer of Cockney Rebel.
The original line-up also included Jean-Paul Crocker, Stuart Elliott, Paul Jeffreys and Nick Jones. When the group disbanded, Steve enjoyed a brief stint as a solo artist before they reunited in April 1990. From 1999 to 2008, the pop legend presented Sounds of the 70s on BBC Radio 2.
