Kate in hospital after undergoing abdominal surgery

Kate, the Princess of Wales is “doing well” after her abdominal surgery earlier this week and will continue her royal work from bed as she recovers at home, insiders have claimed.

Princess Kate was admitted to the London Clinic where she is expected to stay for another week before continuing her recovery from Adelaide Cottage in Windsor until Easter.

The royal is very keen to return to work “as soon as possible”, palace insiders told the Times. However both her and Prince William’s approach is “family first, day job second” as they try to juggle the royal workload with a sense of normality for their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

The source added: “The kids are always at the centre of their universe. That will continue to be the case. They want to make sure they have as much normality as possible going forward.”

Kate has cleared her diary until she is fully recovered, whilst William has also postponed his own engagements to be by his wife’s side and support their children.

It is understood the Prince of Wales is now in charge of dropping off and picking up their kids from school.

But whilst Kate is not expected to be back to attending engagements until after Easter, she is still likely to continue working in a manner consistent with her recovery, especially on matters relating to her campaigns.

An aid revealed: “Her passion for the early years is clear, there will be a huge continuation of that campaign and she will be keen to be out continuing that conversation with the nation as soon as possible.”

It comes as King Charles prepares for his own operation this coming week. Buckingham Palace announced the monarch would be undergoing surgery for an “enlarged prostate” with his condition being described as “benign”.

While it was unusual for the Palace to reveal so much medical detail, it was understood Charles wished to share his condition to encourage more men to get tested.
