Highways to Experience 1-Month Traffic Disruption Over Abnormal Cargo Transportation

Motorists have been warned of traffic disruptions that will be experienced on major highways in the country for 30 days owing to abnormal cargo transportation.

In a notice dated Saturday, the transport company, Kyoga Haulier, indicated that it would be transporting an abnormal load along the Mombasa – Nairobi and  Nairobi-Nakuru highways.

The Nairobi – Eldoret Highway will also be affected by the 30-day transportation.

“The routes to be used include Mombasa – Mariakani – Voi -Mtito – Nairobi – Gilgil – Eldoret – Kitale -Kapenguria – Kamatira – Sebit,” read the notice in part.

According to the transportation schedule, the cargo will leave Mombasa on December 24, 2023, and reach its destination on January 24, 2024.

Motorists were, therefore, warned to exercise caution whenever they sight the cargo.

The company indicated that the cargo measures 4.7 meters in height, 4.5 meters in width and is 18 meters long.

“All road users on the affected routes are advised to exercise extra caution when in the vicinity of this abnormal cargo” read the notice in part.

However, the specific details of the cargo being transported were not made public.

Occasionally, such notices are issued during the transportation of heavy steel metals used in construction, military equipment, boats and old airplanes.

For instance, on November 3, Transport Logistics company DB Schenker warned motorists of major traffic disruptions in Nairobi owing to the transportation of an old plane.
