The ICC T20 World Cup 2024 finally came to life on Thursday. The fanatics who didn’t follow the USA vs Pakistan match yesterday may have woken up to the startling headlines of the upset that took place late in the night. USA vs PAK match not only went down to the wire, but the minnows USA held their nerves to strike down the former champions in the super over at the Grand Prairie Stadium.

USA cause huge upset against Pakistan in T20 World Cup 2024
After suffering the upset against the USA, the Pakistan team is facing criticism from all ends. Captain Babar Azam is drawing severe flak for the defensive strategies he carried forward as a leader and for his hold-up play. In the key moments when Pakistan needed quick runs, Babar Azam was evidently overtly cautious and eventually compounded 44 runs but also took a staggering 43 balls to get there. A quick-fire 40 off 25 balls by Shadab Khan and Shaheen Afridi’s positive intent with the bat, scoring 23 in 16 balls, helped Pakistan cross the 150 mark.
Chasing 160, the USA got the perfect start. Openers Steven Taylor and Monank Patel constructed a 36-run opening stand. Following Taylor’s departure, Patel and Andries Gous scurried the US past the 100-run mark. Following that, Pakistan pacers brought their side back with a quick couple of wickets. In the end, the onus fell on Aaron Jones again. It was 12 needed in the final three balls of the match. Haris Rauf had the ball and Jones kept his calm to smash a six. He took a single on the following ball, leaving Nitish Kumar to score 5 runs on the last ball. Kumar got the boundary on the final ball to level the score and take the match to the super over.
In the super over, Pakistan showcased a lackluster field performance and due to that the USA posted 18 runs on the board despite getting just one boundary in the over bowled by Mohammad Amir. For the USA, Saurabh Netravalkar kept Pakistan at bay and subsequently, the USA won the Super Over by 5 runs. Monank Patel was adjudged with the Player of the Match award for scoring a well compiled half-century.

IShowspeed brushed off the comparison between Virat Kohli and Babar Azam
A loss to the USA at the start of the tournament has left Pakistan fans infuriated. The social media space is filled with angry reactions toward the Pakistan team. Aside from the vexation, the team is also incurring intense derision on social media. Famed YouTuber IShowspeed has also reacted to the loss of Pakistan. Speed, who is a self-declared fan of Virat Kohli, brushed off the comparison between Kohli and Babar Azam.
