THE online e-commerce platform Lazada on Thursday offered tips to avoid falling prey to scams and other fraudulent activities.
First, Lazada urged customers to use official channels when making transactions and to avoid paying from outside the checkout process.
“Always conduct your transactions within legitimate shopping platforms and official brand channels. Avoid making payments outside of the designated checkout process. If a seller requests payment through wire transfers or bank deposits, consider it a red flag,” the company said.
Lazada also suggested that users take advantage of the seller chat option.
“[Use the] chat feature to ask any questions or clarify details about the products you’re interested in. Avoid making special arrangements with sellers outside of the platform and official pages or sites,” Lazada said.

In addition, users are urged to stay within their platform and to avoid sharing personal information through other means.
“Keep all communication and transactions within the confines of the e-commerce platform. Avoid sharing personal information or discussing orders through external channels like text messages, individual social media messaging accounts, or other messaging apps,” Lazada said.
Online buyers should also be wary of accounts posing as Lazada representatives and to confirm their legitimacy of all communication using the platform itself.
“For Lazada, providing a safe and secure shopping experience is a top priority,” the company said.
