The incoming 52nd President of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN), Mrs Yetunde Ilori, has said that her tenure will focus on enhancing educational programmes, fostering innovation and promoting ethical practices within the industry

Ilori, who is also the Chairman of the Council of the Institute, disclosed this on Monday during a news conference ahead of her investiture on July 23.

She stated that her deep-seated desire to advance the industry inspired the theme of her tenure: “Igniting the Bedrock of Our Envisioned Industry”.

According to her, this theme will be actualised through an agenda summarised by the acronym EPIC, which stands for Education, Professionalism, Institutional Recognition, and Capacity Building within and outside the insurance industry.

“EPIC encapsulates our commitment to these core areas after a critical assessment of where our industry stands and where it should be.

“I believe that with all of us working together, this vision can become a reality,” she said.

Ilori said that her administration would strengthen collaborations with regulators, other professional bodies and relevant stakeholders.

She also pledged to sustain the successes recorded by previous presidents of the institute and to complete previously initiated projects.

In line with the theme, Ilori emphasised the importance of evolving education through technology (E-Education), as the world undergoes a digital revolution, which includes the insurance industry.

She noted the need to bridge the knowledge gap about insurance, moving beyond simple awareness campaigns to empower the public with real education.

“We will create a tiered training

programme modelled after business schools for our institute. From entry-level to executive levels,

our Institute will become the premier destination for insurance education in Nigeria.

“We will leverage existing channels and institutions to deliver insurance education outside the industry. Imagine insurance as a core subject in secondary schools or a focus for training programs. This will significantly enhance insurance literacy across the nation.

“Executive training opportunities will be a cornerstone of our initiative. By partnering with reputable institutions, both local and international, we will offer certification programs that elevate professional skills,”she said.

Ilori mentioned that her administration  would also promote the highest standards of professionalism, discipline, elevate the institute’s Fellowship programme, enhance its image, upgrade programme quality and establish credible awards programme, among others.

She assured that her administration would establish a Chartered Insurance Analyst (CIA) product to qualify exceptional individuals and also create internship programmes to bridge the gap between academics and practical experience.

“EPIC is a bold vision, but I am confident that together, we can achieve remarkable things. With your support and dedication, the CIIN will become a force for positive change in the industry.

“We will empower the public, elevate professional standards, and ensure our institute is recognised as a beacon of excellence,” she said.

Ilori, also the immediate past, Director-General of the Nigerian Insurance Association (NIA), exemplifies dedication, leadership, and integrity in the insurance industry.

Her significant contributions have profoundly shaped the landscape of insurance in Nigeria and

beyond, making her a beacon of excellence in her field. (NAN).
