Former Super Eagles captain, John Obi Mikel, has disclosed his efforts to encourage Victor Osimhen to consider joining Chelsea instead of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) or Manchester United.
Osimhen purportedly inked a new deal with the Italian club in December, binding him until 2026. According to Sky Sports Italy, the 25-year-old now possesses a release clause in his contract valued at approximately £104 million to £113 million.
Chelsea stands among the numerous European top-tier clubs vying for his signature. Mikel asserts that he has advised Osimhen to disregard offers from PSG and Manchester United, opting instead to emulate his path by joining the London-based club.
‘I think there is genuine interest between both,’ Mikel said to Ben Jacobs at the Web Summit Qatar, when asked whether there was a chance Osimhen could move to Chelsea.
‘I think he loves the club, he wants to come to the club.
‘Obviously, he wants to follow my footsteps as a Nigerian player who has played for Chelsea – Victor Moses, Celestine Babayaro, not a lot of us.
The Chelsea legend also joked: ‘I’m still Osimhen’s agent, trying to get him to Chelsea! I’ve got 20 per cent of that deal, so I hope it works out!’
