IMD issues yellow alert for rain, thunderstorm for 13 Odisha districts

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday issued a yellow warning for moderate rain and thunderstorm activities in 13 districts of Odisha.

The alert has been issued for the districts of Sambalpur, Angul, Boudh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Cuttack, Khordha, Nayagarh, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Gajapati and Ganjam in the next three hours.

“People in these districts are advised to keep a watch on the weather and accordingly move to safer places to be safe from lightning strikes,” an advisory read.

Earlier late Saturday night, several parts of Odisha experienced rainfall activities under the influence of the low-pressure area.

On Saturday, the IMD informed that the well-marked low-pressure area was formed over the Northwest Bay of Bengal.  The associated cyclonic circulation extending is likely to move west-northwestwards across north Odisha and adjoining West Bengal during the next 24 hours.

The IMD has also predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in several parts of Odisha till October 3 under the influence of the low-pressure area.
