Israel’s defence ministry has reported that targeted raids into Gaza have seen the military recover the remains of “a number of hostages”.

IDF spokesperson Daniel Hagari declared that the families of the Israelis have been notified, he added that items found at the scene could also allow the Israeli army to locate other captured citizens.

The hostages have been held in Gaza since attacks launched by Palestinian groups a week ago – last Saturday.

Hagari reported that the raids into Gaza “destroyed terrorist infrastructure and squads, including a Hamas unit that fired anti-tank missiles toward Israel.”

Today is also of huge significance to Israeli citizens living north of Gaza City as the IDF has opened corridors for people to flee south. The IDF has given them a six hour deadline to pass safely to avoid grave danger.

Pro-Palestinian Conservative Crispin Blunt has announced the intention to bring a legal case against the government to the international criminal court over potential complicity in Israeli war crimes in Gaza.

In a letter addressed to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Foreign Secretary James Cleverly, the MP for former chairman of the foreign affairs select committee wrote: “In light of the catastrophic situation currently unfolding in Gaza, and clear evidence that Israel has committed war crimes and is on the verge of committing mass atrocity crimes in Gaza, this letter is provided to the UK Government in order to emphasise that under international criminal law and its jurisprudence on individual criminal responsibility, support provided to perpetrators of international crimes can be investigated and prosecuted by the International Criminal Court.”
