Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says players must be “careful” after Jack Grealish’s home was broken into.

Officers were called to reports of a burglary at winger Grealish’s Cheshire house during City’s 3-1 Premier League win at Everton on Wednesday.

The Sun reportedexternal-link that thieves took jewellery and watches worth £1m while his family and partner were inside.

“They have security but unfortunately it’s happened. It’s happened many times,” said Guardiola.

“[Manchester] United players as well. I don’t know much about London but it’s happened [there], and not just in the UK – I know in Catalonia, where my family lives, many things happen.

“Today you have to be careful. Not much on social media – the less they know what you are doing the better. People are waiting [to see] where you are, what you are doing.”

Members of Grealish’s family and partner Sasha Attwood were at the property when they heard a disturbance and raised the alarm.

A police search was carried out, supported by dogs and a helicopter, but officers did not find any suspects.

Former City defender Joao Cancelo was attacked during a burglary at home last year, while Raheem Sterling, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Paul Pogba and Angel di Maria have also been targeted by thieves.

Guardiola said: “Jewellery, money, whatever – it’s tough, and the family being there is difficult to process. It’s tough for Jack, as it was with Joao before.”

Grealish did not train on Thursday so he could spend time with his family.

Guardiola said City will “see how he feels” about playing in Saturday’s home league game against Sheffield United.
