Yesterday’s final day of the Wanda Diamond League ended well for Jamaican athletes as Shericka Jackson and Hansle Parchment were winners, with the event having two world records.

Tajay Gayle, Natoya Goule-Toppin and Rushell Clayton also had top-three finishes.

Jackson returned yesterday after her impressive 100 metres win on Saturday to defend her title in the 200 metres. Unbeaten all season in the event, despite failing to trouble the world record of 21.34 seconds, it was another impressive win for Jackson, who ran against the clock.

Jackson, the World Championships winner in the event, stopped the clock at 21.57 seconds for an easy win, also a meet record. She picked up her second win of the meet. Marie Josee Ta Lou of the Ivory Coast, as she did in the 100 metres, was second in 22.10 seconds, with Jackson’s training partner, Anthonique Strachan of The Bahamas, ending third in a season-best 22.16.

Olympic Games winner and World Championships silver medallist Parchment, despite another sluggish start, put on another brilliant top-end finish to win the men’s 110 metres hurdles.

Parchment’s winning time of 12.93 seconds was a personal best and world-leading one. Defending champion and World Championships gold medallist Grant Holloway of the United States of America (USA) had to settle for second in 13.06, just ahead of compatriot Daniel Roberts, who was third in 13.07.

World Championships long jump bronze medallist Gayle had the next-best finish at the meet by a Jamaican after a second-place finish in the men’s long jump. His mark of 8.22 metres was the same as winner, Simon Ehammer of Switzerland, who won on countback.

Goule-Toppin made up for her disappointment at the World Championships, where she failed to make the final of the women’s 800 metres, after producing a career-best time of 1:55.96 minutes for third, which was also a new national record.

Winner Athing Mu with 1:54.97 minutes of the USA and second-place finisher Great Britain’s Keely Hodgkinson with 1:55.19 minutes, also produced national records.

World Championships 400 metres hurdles bronze medallist Clayton, as she did in Budapest, ended third in the women’s 400 metres hurdles in 53.56 seconds, as countrywoman Janieve Russell was fourth in a season-best 53.60. As they did in Budapest, Femke Bol of the Netherlands won in a meet-record 51.98 seconds, ahead of USA’s Shamier Little, who was second in 53.45.

World Championships women’s 100 metres hurdles champion Danielle Williams and World Championships 400 metres finalist Candice McLeod ended fourth in their event, while Megan Tapper was fifth in the 100 metres hurdles.

Williams clocked 12.47 seconds, with Tapper doing 12.47. Defending champion Tobi Amusan of Nigeria won in a season-best 12.33 seconds, ahead of Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico with 12.38 and Kendra Harrison of the USA with 12.44.

McLeod clocked 50.76 seconds for her fourth-place finish in the women’s 400 metres, won by World Championships winner Marileidy Paulino of the Dominican Republic in 49.58 seconds.

Meanwhile, Gudaf Tsegay of Ethiopia, with 14:00.21 minutes and World Championships winner, Sweden’s Armand Duplantis, with an impressive 6.23 metres in the men’s pole vault, set world records at the meet.
