World Indoor 60m champion Julien Alfred of St Lucia delivered an outstanding performance, clocking a personal best of 10.78 seconds to equal the meet record at the sixth staging of the Racers Grand Prix at the National Stadium on Saturday night.
The time, which was achieved with a 1.3 m/s wind, is also a new national record for St Lucia.

Alfred got off to a fast start and quickly moved away from the field, matching the meet record set by Shericka Jackson in 2023 and surpassing her previous best of 10.81 seconds, achieved in the preliminary round at the Big 12 Conference Championships in Lubbock, Texas, on May 14, 2022.
Krystal Sloley finished second with a new personal best time of 10.99 seconds, coming three weeks after the Jamaican clocked a then personal best 11.09 seconds to finish behind Marie-Josée Ta Lou-Smith of the Ivory Coast at the inaugural Jamaica Athletics Invitational on May 11. Shashalee Forbes finished third in 11.05 seconds.
Alfred was making a return to Jamaica to compete for the first time since completing her secondary education at St. Catherine High School in 2018.
In March, she won St Lucia’s first-ever global gold medal by winning the 60m dash at the World Indoor Athletics Championships in Glasgow.
Alfred is aiming to secure St Lucia’s first Olympic medal at Paris 2024 later this year.
