Justices of the Peace urged to be vehicles of truth

Minister of Justice, Delroy Chuck, is imploring Justices of the Peace (JPs) to be vehicles for truth and not to unknowingly participate in the spread of misinformation.

“Never let it be said that any one of you peddle or convey misinformation. I urge each of you to be very skeptical about what you hear or what is conveyed to you as accurate information.

“Skepticism must be your guide, and only pass on information that you know is accurate,” he said.

The justice minister was recently addressing a sensitisation session for JPs, which was held at the Sharon Baptist Church Hall in Santa Cruz, St Elizabeth.

He reminded JPs that citizens hold them in high esteem, as they are seen as the persons who give accurate information, and anything to the contrary will destroy their credibility.

“If ever you transmit misinformation, you lose your credibility and your integrity will be questioned. So, when we speak in the justice system, we want to make sure that we convey what is right and what is accurate,” he emphasised.

The sensitisation session was held to provide JPs with details about the Ministry’s Restorative Justice efforts and information about the National Identification System (NIDS).
Custos of St Elizabeth, Beryl Rochester, commended JPs in attendance for their continued commitment to giving service to their communities.

The session was held under the theme ‘JPs providing justice… transforming lives’.
