Kenyan Lawyer Lands International Role, Representing Africa

Kenyan lawyer, Joyce Munene, formerly the Assistant Director at the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission (EACC) has landed a job at the International Bar Association (IBA).

Joyce Munene is expected to ascend to the position of a liaison lawyer at the International Criminal Court representing the African region.

The IBA which was established in 1947 is considered the foremost organisation for international legal practitioners, bar associations and law societies.

According to the organisation its membership spans 170 countries and comprises of more than 80,000 individual international lawyers from most of the world’s leading law firms and some 190 bar associations and law societies.

Celebrating her new appointment, Joyce noted that she looked forward to performing her role at the organisation at a time when Kenya was firming up its geopolitical credentials.

“I look forward to contributing to the regional quest for good governance, justice, and rule of law in line with objectives of the International Bar Association.”

Within her jurisdiction, Joyce will be required to represent African countries in committees and conferences within global communities.

Before the appointment Joyce served as the Assistant Director at EACC.

She holds a Masters Degree in International Criminal Justice law. She also has forensic investigation training from the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) and the  Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC).

Joyce who is an advocate of the High Court boasts a decorated career in the legal field having worked in the Parliamentary Service Commission and the private sector before moving to the EACC.

For her achievements in the legal field, Munene has been recognised and won numerous accolades.

In 2022, she was awarded with a Head of State’s Commendation (HSC).

Celebrating Munene’s latest appointment, the Cabinet Secretary for Investments Trade and Industry, Rebecca Miano stated, “Congratulations Wakili for this incredible milestone! Wish you Godspeed in your role at the International Bar Association (IBA).”
