A Yoga teacher accused of killing her pro cyclist love rival faces a trial – and more jail time for allegedly trying to escape prison.
The trial against Kaitlin Armstrong, 35, is set to take place this week, as prosecutors add charges and jail time for an attempted escape as she stands accused of killing her love rival, then escaping and getting plastic surgery to try and evade detention before ultimately being arrested.
Armstrong now faces 99 years in prison if the jury finds her guilty. She stands accused of shooting and killing 25-year-old champion bicyclist Anna “Mo” Wilson in Austin in 2022 after learning that Wilson had a relationship with Armstrong’s ex-boyfriend.
Wilson and Armstrong’s ex-lover, cyclist Colin Strickland, 35, had a brief one-week fling while he was on a break from the yoga instructor. Strickland snuck out of the home they shared on the day of the shooting to meet Wilson – who was visiting Austin for an upcoming race, according to officials.

When Armstrong found out about the affair in January, she allegedly became visibly enraged and “shaking in anger.” CCTV showed her car had allegedly been in the area of the murder around the time of Wilson’s murder, so cops issued a warrant for her arrest. But before they could catch her, she allegedly went on the lam – allegedly staying on the run for six weeks before being apprehended in Costa Rica on Wednesday.
Allegedly using a fake passport, she allegedly flew from Newark Airport to Costa Rica on May 18 and checked in at a beachside hostel. She allegedly chopped off her long red locks, cutting it to a shoulder-length do before dying it a dark brown colour.

To further change her appearance, she allegedly strapped a bandage over her nose and created a bruising effect under her eyes – which she claimed was due to a surfboard incident, according to US Marshals. While in Costa Rica, the flexible fugitive took a number of classes on a type of yoga which involved surfing, according to Deputy U.S. Marshal Brandon Filla.
“We believe she was staying at the hostel to really make her money stretch further down the road,” he added. To evade capture, she had to cut ties with friends and family. Filla suspects she may have been looking to make new connections with solo travellers at the hostel.

US Marshals have been combing the country for the flexible alleged truant after she was last seen at Newark’s Liberty International on May 18. This fleeting appearance came just the day after the Austin Police Department issued a warrant for her arrest.
However, she was arrested in Costa Rica after six weeks on the lam. After being stopped by police, she allegedly gave cops a different name, which was soon found to allegedly be a lie. Eventually forced to give up her real name, cops soon found she was subject to an international arrest warrant, police said.

It was soon established that Armstrong had allegedly fled the country a week after the murder on May 18 using a fraudulent passport. She is now set to be deported to the US. “Now she’ll face justice with the hopes of bringing some kind of closure to the Wilson family who’s been victimised by this incident,” Filla said.
