King and Queen tour LIVE: Charles and Camilla travel by tram following furore over flights

King Charles and Queen Camilla have opted to use Bordeaux’s tram service to get around the city today, September 22.

This news comes after the couple have been the centre of furore over their use of flights.

The couple travelled into Paris on Wednesday, via a royal jet, and stayed in the city for two days.

Having now travelled to Bordeaux, the couple are gearing up for the end of their mini tour.

Bordeaux was chosen as a stop for the tour due to its home to large number of ex-pats and is twinned with Bristol.

The couple will end today’s visit with a trip an organic vineyard in the city.

The vineyard is one which has pioneered a sustainable approach to wine making, something that the King is known to be passionate about.

The tour was rescheduled from March, with the trip originally planned for six months ago.

Violent protests across the country meant that it was forced to be halted, with the Palace releasing details of the rescheduled visit last month.

Queen donates books to charity

Queen Camilla fended off a bee before donating books to a centre for Ukrainian refugees.

The Queen visited Le Pain de l’Amitié that houses a subsidised supermarket, kitchen and restaurant, and provides low-cost food and necessities to those in need.

Camilla had a quick tour of the charity in Bordeaux which was first established as a soup kitchen in the 1980s, and still regularly serves hot meals to the homeless in its restaurant.

The Queen heard how the charity works with Dons Solidaires, a French charity fighting against hygiene poverty.

Recently, Don Solidaires has partnered with In Kind Direct International – which was founded by the King in 1997.

She met three women from Ukraine and spoke in private about how they are coping.

As she took her seat the Queen said: “So how long have you been here. How did you hear about this place?”

The rest of the ten-minute meeting was held in private.

As she left, The Queen presented a donation of a small selection of children’s books to the service.

They included Mrs Harris Goes to Paris, Paddington, The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse, and two Harry Potter books in France.

Sources close to the Queen say it was merely a selection of books and that more will follow.- By Richard Palmer, Daily Express Royal Correspondent in Paris

The King’s moving words to France written on the Senate’s guest book

On the second day of the King and Queen’s visit to France, Charles III was invited to speak at the French Senate.

The historic moment marked the first time that a British monarch had spoken at the Senate.

During his visit, the King shared a tender message, which has been revealed by Gala.

Throughout his written words, which were in the language of Molière, the sovereign was delighted with the relationship between the UK and France.

He wrote: “The friendship between the United Kingdom and France has a great history and a bright future, thanks to the rich exchanges between our people, our elected officials and our governments.”

The King also shared his gratitude for the visit, writing: “Please accept my deep gratitude for the honor of this invitation to the Senate, for the warmth of your welcome and for everything that the National Assembly and the Senate do to make these essential relations flourish.”

On Wednesday, his first day in France, the King spoke at the state dinner organised in the Hall of Mirrors of the Palace of Versailles

Despite not usually speaking politically, the King said: “It is up to us all to reinvigorate our friendship so that it is up to the challenges of this 21st century.”

The sovereign thus declared that France and the UK were “united against oppression and supports the most vulnerable, in particular those who suffer the devastating effects of natural disasters or conflicts, whether in Ukraine, in Libya, and in Morocco”.

The King and Queen set to travel to Bordeaux for final day in France

The King and Queen are to meet Britons running businesses in south-western France before touring a vineyard on the final day of their state visit.

Charles and Camilla will fly from Paris to Bordeaux, a change from their original plans amid French media leaks, before being welcomed in a town hall.

The couple will join a reception on a Royal Navy frigate and ride a tram to the main square to meet British and French business owners on Friday, September 22.

Charles is set to hear all about the effects of climate change on forest fires, while Queen Camilla will meet a local charity supporting disadvantaged people.

The couple’s visit will end with a tour of a sustainable vineyard.

Bordeaux, famous for its wine, is home to around 39,000 Britons and is twinned with Bristol.

The King said in his historic address to the French Parliament on Thursday the “shared link” between the two cities is just one of a “countless number of connections” between the UK and France.
