King Charles has extended his stay in hospital after undergoing prostate surgery last week.
The monarch had the procedure carried out on an enlarged prostate on Friday at the London Clinic in Marylebone and was due to spend two nights at the private hospital. But his discharge has been delayed as it was revealed Charles will spend a third night under doctors’ watch.
Queen Camilla visited Charles several times over the weekend after he was admitted last week, including three times on Sunday. Now news he will stay another night has sparked new concerns for his health. Camilla smiled as she arrived at The London Clinic in central London by car at midday on Sunday, leaving again just over three hours later. She returned between 6pm and 7pm and was smiling as she left.
It is the same hospital where the Princess of Wales is being cared for after abdominal surgery. Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson was also pictured smiling as she left the same clinic last week following a recent malignant melanoma scare.
A Buckingham Palace spokesman previously said the King was “admitted to a London hospital for scheduled treatment”. The spokesman added: “His Majesty would like to thank all those who have sent their good wishes over the past week and is delighted to learn that his diagnosis is having a positive impact on public health awareness.”

One source told The Sun: “It is understood that Charles would only stay in hospital for longer than two nights if there was some kind of unexpected issue. The extra stay is entirely precautionary but has nevertheless reportedly caused some unease.”
The King was diagnosed with the benign condition on January 17 while staying at Birkhall, Aberdeenshire, after going for a check-up because he was experiencing symptoms. He has already cancelled engagements for the next month to allow his recovery after the op. Buckingham Palace confirmed earlier this month he was to undergo the “corrective procedure” on what was a benign condition, however it has not given any indication of how long he would remain in hospital or long recovery would take.
It’s widely understood the Palace – which rarely shares information about royal family members’ health concerns – put out the statement in order to raise awareness and encourage other men to get themselves checked. The plan seems to have worked, too, as news of Charles’ operation sparked a huge uptick in people searching and reading up about prostate conditions.
