India-based firm Larsen & Toubro has secured an order to build a 75 MW floating solar park project on the Panchet Dam in Jharkhand, India.
The floating solar project on the Panchet Dam is a part of the Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Power Bank (UMREPP) being developed on Damodar Valley corporation reservoirs in Jharkhand and West Bengal.
The UMREPP, an Indian government initiative, aims to promote the development of new and clean energy projects.
The firm is also set to deliver turnkey construction of a 380 kV substation in Saudi Arabia and has won substation and voltage substation conversion orders from hydrocarbon companies in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. Aside from that, Larsen & Toubro has received an additional order for an ongoing 220 kV power supply project in the UAE.
The news comes as India is looking to develop four floating solar power plants on four dams. Namely, SJVN Green Energy (SGEL), part of India’s state-owned power company SJVN, recently submitted a proposal to the Goa state government for the development of four floating solar power plants.
With an estimated investment of around INR 1300 Crore (approximately $156.4 million), this project aims to produce 190 MW of electricity.
