Doug Cuthand’s article (SP Dec. 2) regarding climate change hits all credible markers. The year 2023 is now the hottest year on record as are the last 10 cumulative years. Saskatchewan has one of the largest unsustainable carbon footprints per capita in the world (Premier Moe admits he doesn’t care).
Climate change is affecting our GDP and costing taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars as the government rescues drought-stricken farmers and ranchers and fights fires destroying our valuable forests.

Glaciers and mountain snow pack are receding, which depletes our primary source of prairie water.
Forward-thinking countries are investing billions of dollars in green energy industries, which create thousands of highly diverse jobs, while our government clings to the fossil fuel past with much lower employment opportunities.
They prefer polluting the air we breathe with no restrictions regarding fossil fuel emissions, especially the worst from methane.
Investigative reporting by the CBC (Dec. 5, 2023) reveals that eliminating the carbon tax would actually penalize low- to middle-income families, while only benefiting the wealthy due to the structure of carbon tax rebates. So carbon tax complainants lack credibility.
The people ignoring or denying the realities of the damage we are doing to our planet are content with the status quo. They prefer to do nothing and turn a blind eye and take the easy way out.
Today’s choices are tomorrow’s consequences and our children and grandchildren will suffer the most dire consequences from climate change inaction.
