Local creatives celebrated, honoured at annual Windsor Mayor’s Arts Awards

The spotlight shone on Windsor’s arts and culture sector last week, with over 20 artists, art organizations, and supporters being honoured at the Windsor Mayor’s Arts Awards.

Mayor Drew Dilkens and Windsor Endowment for the Arts (WEA) president Stephanie Barnhard co-hosted the event held last Friday at Mackenzie Hall in Sandwich Towne. 

Each award recipient and presenter had an opportunity to discuss their careers and successes, the projects that brought them recognition, and upcoming initiatives.

The event also included a special memoriam presentation honouring members of the arts community who passed away over the last two years.

2024 WEA Arts Leadership Awards (Awards of Merit)

Community Arts Leadership Award (Individual) – Bernadette Berthelotte.

Community Arts Leadership Award (Organization) – Shō Studios.

Literary Arts Leadership Award – Christopher Lawrence Menard.

Performing Arts Music Leadership Award – Hugh and Kathy Leal.

Performing Arts Theatre Leadership Award – Arts Collective Theatre (ACT).

Visual Arts Leadership Award – Arts Council Windsor & Region (ACWR).

2024 WEA Emerging Artist Grant – ($3,000)

Artist in Film Arts – Elissa Weir.

Emerging Artist in Literary Arts  – Erik Johnson.

Emerging Artist in Performing Arts – Alysia Therrien.

Lois Smedick Emerging Artist in Visual Arts – Tristan Olivier Balmokune.
