MANILA, Philippines —The driver’s license of the suspect involved in the fatal shooting incident in Makati will be suspended for 90 days pending an investigation, according to the Land Transportation Office (LTO).
In a statement on Thursday, the LTO said it started the process of stripping the license of Gerrard Raymund Yu, the driver of a black Mercedes-Benz, who shot and killed Aniceto Mateo, 65, the driver of another vehicle, with whom he had an altercation with along the EDSA-Ayala Tunnel in Makati City on May 29, 2024. Mateo, a family driver, was with a housemaid and a child when the incident happened.
LTO Chief Vigor Mendoza II said Yu’s administrative cases are as follows: Reckless Driving under Section 48 of Republic Act 4136 in connection to I-E of Joint Administrative Order 2014-01; and Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle under Section 27(a) of Republic Act 4136 or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code, which carries the maximum penalty of cancellation of driver’s license.

Mendoza also said the LTO issued a show cause order against the suspect and directed him to submit a notarized affidavit on why he should not be penalized.

Yu is currently under police custody as the offense was non-bailable.
Mendoza said the registered owner of the black Mercedes Benz used by Yu will be asked to explain why the suspect drove the vehicle and had two different license plates, a green plate with number BCS 77 and the other a white plate with number DAB 9670.
Yu was arrested in his Pasig City residence, according to Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos in a press briefing at the Philippine National Police headquarters on May 29.
