Top Quote Paint Plus Canberra and Tamara Design Co have collaborated to design and install new wallpaper into Canberra’s oldest building Duntroon House maintaining its place in history. End Quote

(1888PressRelease) June 07, 2024 – Duntroon House, nestled within the prestigious Royal Military College of Australia in Canberra, is a heritage treasure steeped in history and architectural grandeur. Built in the 1830s, this Georgian-style mansion has witnessed the evolution of Australian society and the military, standing as a testament to time’s passage and progress. Recently, a new chapter in its storied history began as Paint Plus Canberra, a renowned local painting and decorating company, undertook the delicate task of installing Tamara Design Co wallpaper, breathing fresh life into the historic walls.

The collaboration between Paint Plus Canberra and Tamara Design Co is a harmonious blend of tradition and modern artistry. Tamara Design Co, known for its exquisite and bespoke wallpaper designs, brings a unique aesthetic that combines contemporary elegance with classical motifs, making it the perfect choice for Duntroon House. Their wallpapers are not merely decorative; they are works of art that tell a story, evoke emotions, and transform spaces.

For Duntroon House, the chosen design reflects the grandeur and historical significance of the property. The wallpaper pattern commissioned by Celia Cramer Conservation was designed by Tamara Design Co. Tamara said “I was provided with a piece of the original wallpaper found in the building and took my inspiration from Marianne Campbell’s water colour natural history collections which are held at the National Library of Australia.”. This choice pays homage to the various architectural influences that have touched Duntroon House over the decades, ensuring that the new décor complements and enhances the existing heritage features.

Paint Plus Canberra, with its impeccable reputation for quality craftsmanship and attention to detail, was the ideal partner for this prestigious project. Their team of skilled professionals understands the importance of preserving the integrity of historic properties while introducing modern elements. The installation process was approached with meticulous care, ensuring that the original character of Duntroon House was respected and preserved. Rick Maier from Paint Plus Canberra said “The first step in the transformation involved extensive preparation. Given the age and significance of Duntroon House, thorough surface preparation was essential. The walls were carefully inspected, repaired, and primed to ensure a flawless finish. Paint Plus Canberra’s team worked diligently to address any imperfections, ensuring that the wallpaper would adhere perfectly and last for years to come.

The installation of the Tamara Design Co. wallpaper was a meticulous and time-consuming process, reflecting the company’s commitment to excellence. Each roll of wallpaper was carefully measured, cut, and aligned to ensure seamless pattern matching. The bold and intricate design required a high level of precision, which Paint Plus Canberra delivered with unwavering expertise. The result is a series of rooms that are both cohesive and breathtakingly beautiful, each space telling a part of the larger story of Duntroon House.

One of the standout spaces in Duntroon House is the Campbell Room, with vaulted curved ceilings complete with golden highlights and chandelier. The geometric design of the wallpaper highlights these curves and draws the eye up, enhancing the sense of grandeur and sophistication. The clean lines and subtle colours of the wallpaper complement the rich wooden trim and antique furniture, creating a serene and inviting atmosphere for reading and contemplation.

The transformation of Duntroon House is a testament to the power of thoughtful design and skilled craftsmanship. Paint Plus Canberra and Tamara Design Co have not only enhanced the aesthetic appeal of this historic property but have also ensured that its legacy will continue to be celebrated for generations to come. The new wallpaper installations are more than just a visual upgrade; they are a celebration of Duntroon House’s rich history and enduring elegance.

As Duntroon House re-opens its doors to new visitors, the stunning wallpapers by Tamara Design Co, installed by the expert team at Paint Plus Canberra, stand as a reminder that history and modernity can coexist beautifully. This project is a shining example of how heritage properties can be revitalised with care, creativity, and respect for their storied past.

And by all accounts, Duntroon House’s resident ghost ‘Sophie’ is well pleased with the restoration.
