MANILA, Philippines: President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has opened Malacañang to performing artists for the “Goldenberg: The Concert Series,” which aims to connect Filipino youth with talented musicians.
The inaugural concert held on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at the historic Goldenberg Mansion in San Miguel, Manila provided the Filipino youth with a venue to experience world-class music concerts, Malacañang said.
The event featured performances by the musicians from the Manila Symphony Orchestra, with two shows at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
The Goldenberg Mansion, once the residence of Stella Goldenberg-Brimo, a regular soloist with the Manila Symphony Orchestra after the Second World War, was fittingly chosen as the venue.
The featured pianist for the evening was Mariel Ilusorio, a protégé of Mrs. Stella Goldenberg-Brimo herself.

Brimo was a well-known soloist, concert pianist, and professor at the University of Sto. Tomas Conservatory of Music and St. Paul’s College.
She was a Manila Symphony Orchestra soloist and played the Emperor Concerto under its founder, Dr. Alexander Lippay, during wartime.
Brimo was the president of the Philippine Association of University of Women (PAUW) Santo Tomas University Chapter and an outstanding leader in the National Council of the PAUW.
“This marks the first of a series of monthly concerts to be held at the Goldenberg Mansion, each showcasing talented Filipino musicians and fostering collaborations within the Philippine art and music community,” the Palace said.
“‘Goldenberg: The Concert Series’ also aims to create unique concerts that blend genres and art experiences, while honoring notable heritage and cultural celebration months,” it added.
Among the attendees were music students from various schools and universities, including the University of Santo Tomas, La Consolacion College, and San Beda University, as well as scholars from the PARC Foundation and the Manila Symphony Orchestra Music Academy.
The concert also drew patrons of music and board members from cultural and arts commissions, including the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, the Asian Cultural Council, and the National Music Competitions for Young Artists.
The Goldenberg Mansion is a fully refurbished home built in the 1800s by the Eugster family. It is the favored venue for this administration’s cultural and art events. This can be privately rented as well.
This is not the first time Malacañang hosted a concert on its premises under the present administration.
It previously held concerts dedicated to soldiers, athletes, and teachers. These performances were part of the “Konsyerto sa Palasyo” concert series that started in April 2023.
