“A man was located deceased inside a residential unit,” Homicide Det.-Sgt. Aaron Akeson said in a statement released after the killing.
He said at the time that the victim had “signs of trauma” to his body and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim was later identified as Mohamed “Mo” Abdalla Mohamed, of Toronto, also known as Mohamed Awad.
He was one of three victims killed in separate homicides in the city in less than 24 hours – Ryan Williams, 38, is believed to have been thrown from an eighth-floor balcony at a downtown apartment building just before midnight that day and Matthew Bergart, 30, was shot dead about two-and-a-half hours later in a suspected home invasion in south Etobicoke.
