Germany Constitutional Court

A 41-year-old man who ran toward police officers while firing a pellet gun on the grounds of Germany’s Federal Constitutional Court in Karlsruhe on Sunday has been remanded in custody.

No one was injured in the incident, although the suspect slightly injured a police officer while struggling during his arrest.

He also allegedly seriously injured another police officer while being transported to the police station.

A spokeswoman for Germany’s federal police, responsible for protecting the court, said the man was fortunate not to have been shot during the incident.

She said a police officer had drawn and pointed his firearm at the suspect.

The Federal Constitutional Court is Germany’s Supreme Court for constitutional matters.

Police are checking whether the man’s pellet rifle was loaded with projectiles when it was fired in the direction of police officers. Police seized the weapon during the arrest.

A judge issued an arrest warrant and detention order for the man on Sunday afternoon, police announced on Monday.
