A man on holiday in the United States has returned home with a whopping 7.46-carat diamond after striking lucky. Julien Navas, from France, visited the Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas and found the gem after just a few hours of digging.
He said: “I got to the park around nine o’clock and started to dig. That is back-breaking work so by the afternoon I was mainly looking on top of the ground for anything that stood out.”
Assistant Park Superintendent Waymon Cox confirmed that Julien had stumbled upon the diamond, which was the size of a gumdrop. The brown-coloured find was likened to a marble and was soon cleaned up and named by Julien as the “Carine Diamond,” after his fiancee.
Julien has since split the diamond in two, giving one half to his fiancee and the other to his daughter. He also plans to return to the Crater of Diamonds Park with his daughter when she’s older. Park rangers confirmed it was the eighth-largest find since 1972.
The Carine Diamond is now the fifth biggest diamond found at the site since 2020. This patch, previously known as Arkansas State Park before it changed its name in 1972, lets you bring your own kit for some fun diamond hunting.
