A Corporate Area man, who is employed as a mixologist, is prepared to head to trial, following allegations that he assaulted a policeman on a bus.
Chad-Oneil Brown pleaded not guilty to common assault and being armed with an offensive weapon in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Wednesday before Parish Judge Jacqueline Wilcott. Allegations outlined state that on March 13, Brown and the complainant, a police constable, were passengers on a Coaster bus when an argument developed. The argument is said to have stemmed from Brown telling the complainant not to open the bus window.
It is alleged that the argument became physical and Brown hurled expletives at the complainant, while in the presence of another cop. He then allegedly slapped the complainant in his face twice. It is alleged further that Brown was armed with a scissors.
“The scissors is a working tool. I had a bottle opener in my pocket and the scissors was in my bag and the police went in my bag,” Brown explained.
“It was self defence,” Brown told the judge further, when he was arraigned for common assault, adding that he will be getting legal representation. The matter was adjourned until May 3 for Brown to retain a lawyer.
