Marcos opens Malacañang to public for Christmas season

Manila, Philippines: For the second straight year, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. opened Malacañang to the public for the Christmas season.

The President and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos graciously opened the doors of the Palace for the people to witness a time-honored tradition initiated by former President Ferdinand E. Marcos and First Lady Imelda R. Marcos.

“This is the first time that the Palace grounds have been opened for the entire nine Simbang Gabi nights,” newly appointed presidential adviser Undersecretary Cesar Chavez said, referring to the nine dawn Masses that started on December 16.

“Never has there been a time that the gates of Malacañang have been thrown wide open to the public this long,” he added.

“This holiday, President BBM and his family organized a special treat for Filipinos, especially children. Children, I believe, would love to enjoy the spirit of the season right inside the Palace grounds. Kids can enjoy the rides installed in a carnival setting, or take selfies in front of the magnificently-lighted Christmas tree, or families can just walk around the lush garden and savor the cool evening breeze,” Chavez said.

Complimentary puto bumbong and bibingka (native rice cakes), will be given away to attendees of the Simbang Gabi, or dawn mass.

Aptly named “Tara sa Palasyo,” the initiative is a jubilant celebration with carnival rides, engaging games, and delectable food, creating an atmosphere of joy and camaraderie, according to the Presidential Communications Office.

“Opening the Palace this Christmas to the public is his way of saying ‘welcome home’,” Chavez said.
