Megan Thee Stallion Set to Join Kamala Harris at Atlanta Rally

Megan Thee Stallion Set to Join Kamala Harris at Atlanta Rally

Rapper Megan Thee Stallion is scheduled to perform at Vice President Kamala Harris’ rally in Atlanta on Tuesday, joining a growing list of celebrities rallying behind the presumptive Democratic nominee, according to a report confirmed to Newsweek by a Harris campaign official.

Kevin Munoz, also of Harris’ campaign, earlier said on social media that Megan Thee Stallion, whose legal name is Megan Pete, will join Harris at the vice president’s first event in Georgia since launching her bid for president. Billboard was the first to report about Stallion giving a “special performance” at the rally.

Democrats have quickly rallied behind the vice president after President Joe Biden announced that he was dropping out of the 2024 race a little over a week ago. Harris has also earned endorsements from several pop-culture stars, including British artist Charli XCX, whose latest album Brat has become a branding tool for the vice president’s campaign.

Other celebrities to endorse Harris early into her campaign include singer and actress Demi Lovato, singer-songwriter John Legend, American actor George Clooney and Star Wars icon Mark Hamill. The vice president was also granted permission from Beyoncé to use the Grammy-Award winning artist’s song, Freedom, at her first rally in Wisconsin last week.

Harris is also not short on endorsements from party leaders. Within her first 48 hours of running for president, the vice president was backed by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Representative and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Former President Barack Obama endorsed Harris along with his wife, former first lady Michelle Obama, late last week.

Former President and GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump had a wave of public figures show their support for his reelection campaign during the Republican National Convention this month. Model and rapper Amber Rose gave a passionate speech endorsing Trump on the first day of the convention, and singer and rapper Kid Rock performed his hit American Bad Ass before the former president gave his keynote address on the last day of the event.

Newsweek reached out to Trump’s campaign via email for comment on Harris’ plans for Tuesday’s rally.

The momentum behind Harris has helped Democrats close the gap on Trump and Republicans in national polling. Voter surveys have also shown the former president’s lead shrink in key swing states like Georgia, which Biden flipped in the 2020 election when he defeated Trump. According to a recent poll by Landmark Communications, Trump was trailing Harris by 1.3 percentage points (48 percent to 46.7 percent) in a hypothetical head-to-head match among likely voters in the Peach State. When other candidates were included, Trump beat Harris by 1.5 points (45.8 percent to 44.3 percent).

In a separate poll last week by Emerson College Polling and The Hill, Trump was leading Harris by 2 percentage points in Georgia, which fell within the survey’s margin of error of 3.4 points. The gap was also a notable improvement from Biden’s performance against Trump in Georgia. Earlier this month, a separate poll from Emerson and The Hill found the president trailing by 5 percentage points.
