Harry and Meghan will ‘struggle to rebrand’ says expert
King Charles taught his sons the importance of taking care of the planet by installing in them a “key value” which Prince Harry has claimed has become an “obsession”.
Both Harry and Prince William have shared a number of behind-the-scenes details about their lives, but during a documentary for the BBC Harry spoke about an environmentally-friendly value which left his wife Meghan Markle baffled.
In 2018, both Harry and William were interviewed for the program ‘Prince, Son and Heir: Charles at 70’ to celebrate King Charles’ 70th birthday. Harry opened up about how the monarch is obsessed with turning the lights off and has passed on his green habits to both the royals.
Speaking in the documentary, Harry said: “He’s a stickler for turning lights off and that’s now something that I’m obsessed with as well. Which is insane because actually, my wife goes ‘Well, why turn the lights off? You know it’s dark’.”
Harry continued: “I go ‘we only need one light, we don’t need like six’, and all of a sudden, it becomes a habit and those small habit changes he’s making, every single person can do. And I think that’s one of the key lessons certainly that I felt that he taught us.”

William agreed with his brother at the time and confessed he also picked up the light switch habit from King Charles. William said: “I know I’ve got serious OCD on light switches now which is terrible.”
However, being concerned about household energy is not the only green habit the Duke of Sussex has picked up from his father, during the documentary Harry said one of King Charles’s other lessons led to him being teased at school
Harry said: “He took us litter-picking when we were younger, on holiday. We were in Norfolk on school holidays, and we went out litter-picking with him.”
“And again, both of us thought, ‘Well this is perfectly normal, everyone must do it’. We were there with our spikes, stabbing the rubbish into black plastic bags.”
Harry also added that he “used to get taken the mickey out of at school for just picking up rubbish.”
“I didn’t go out consciously looking for it. When you go for walks anywhere, if you see something, it stands out, you pick it up… It’s like I’ve literally done this because I’m programmed to do it, because my father did it. And actually, we should all be doing it.”

These planet-friendly lessons have not been forgotten by King Charles, who has enthusiastically praised both Harry and William for everything they have done for the environment.
William is known for having founded the Earthshot Prize, which awards money to five environmentalists to help them fix the world’s biggest climate change problems.
Harry is known to take a deep personal interest in supporting conservation projects in Africa. He has spent time supporting local communities and wildlife in Namibia, Tanzania, South Africa and Botswana.
In an essay about climate change for Newsweek last year, King Charles wrote: “As a father, I am proud that my sons have recognised this threat,
“Most recently, my elder son, William, launched the prestigious Earthshot Prize to incentivise change and help repair our planet over the next ten years by identifying and investing in the technologies that can make a difference.”
King Charles continued: “My younger son, Harry, has passionately highlighted the impact of climate change, especially in relation to Africa, and committed his charity to being net zero.”
