MANILA, Philippines: The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) lowered its rates for December by P0.7961 per kiloWatt hour (kWh), bringing the overall rate for a typical household to P11.2584 per kWh from P12.0545 per kWh.
It attributed the price reduction to lower generation charges.
“Generation charges for November went down to P6.5332 per kWh from P7.1938 per kWh last month because of lower charges from the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) and the Independent Power Producers (IPPs),” Meralco said.
WESM charges decreased by P2.7624 per kWh in November to P4.4601 per kWh from 7.2225 per kWh in October.
Meralco said that charges from IPPs also went down by P0.4731 per kWh to P7.2330 in November from P7.7061 in October.
