A deep-seated discord has surfaced within President William Ruto’s camp, sparking a notable sibling rivalry within Kenya Kwanza.
This contentious feud involves key figures from Cabinet Secretaries to influential political personalities affiliated with the party.
Murkomen vs Cherargei
The clash between Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has been a focal point of this internal strife.
Cherargei, a member of the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, openly criticised Murkomen for allegedly neglecting to provide job opportunities to local contractors on regional road projects.
This public spat emerged during a burial in Chesumei, Nandi County, in October.
The discord persisted, occasionally playing out on social media through cryptic exchanges.
In November, Cherargei was ejected from the Senate chambers during Murkomen’s grilling. The confrontation unfolded as Cherargei protested being denied the opportunity to interrogate the CS, leading to his removal from the Senate at the direction of Senator Abdulkadir Mohamed Haji.
Adding fuel to the fire, on December 8, Murkomen initiated legal action against Senator Cherargei, filing a case after the lawmaker accused him of corruption.

Charargei vs Sports CS Ababu Namwamba
The rift extended to another contentious relationship between Senator Cherargei and Sports and Entertainment Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba.
Cherargei lobbied for Namwamba’s appearance before the National Assembly to address allegations of mishandling the Kenyan Sports sector.
The Senator accused Namwamba of failing to honour Kenyan athletes after winning competitions, ignoring their plight, and running down the sector in general.

DP Gachagua vs Moses Kuria
In a separate yet intense clash, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria engaged in a bitter exchange.
Gachagua criticised Kuria for remarks on the high cost of fuel, emphasising the need for responsible communication.
The exchange continued with Kuria accusing the DP of orchestrating his removal from the Trade Ministry through cryptic posts on social media.
CS Kuria would later accuse Gachagua of pulling the strings to make sure that his name was omitted from the list of honourees awarded on Jamhuri Day.
