Her daily routine included dropping off her toddler at daycare before tending to her trade.
Waithera couldn’t raise KSh 10k for her release
However, one fateful day, her world came crashing down when she was apprehended by county council officers and whisked away to Kamukunji police station, Citizen Digital reported.

Unable to produce the required KSh 10,000 for her release, Waithera found herself behind bars for a month.
Meanwhile, her precious child left at the daycare, was eventually transferred to police custody. Due to her tender age, the child welfare system intervened, placing the infant under their care until Beth’s release.
With her heart aching for her child, Waithera endured her sentence, yearning for the day she could hold her little one again.
What happened after Waithera’s release?
Upon her release, her joy was tempered by the news of her child’s whereabouts. Determined to reclaim her daughter, she embarked on a tireless search until she finally located her at the Child Welfare Society of Kenya (CWSK).
“On August 8, 2023, I was set free. I went back to the daycare where I left my baby only to hear that she had been handed over to police two days before,” she recounted.
Despite being reunited, Waithera’s journey was far from over. She faced the daunting task of proving her maternity to regain custody.
Only after undergoing a DNA test, which thankfully confirmed her relationship with the child, did CWSK trust her with her daughter’s care once more.
