The city government of Manila and the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to update the comprehensive land use plan of the city.
Mayor Maria Sheila “Honey” Lacuna-Pangan said the partnership will help Manila become a world-class global capital city.
DHSUD Secretary Jerry Acuzar signed the MOU.
Lacuna said that the collaboration will be the blueprint to realize her vision to transform Manila into a global city equal that or even better than Singapore, Seoul and Tokyo.
The plan will create safe, vibrant and walkable neighborhoods, while ensuring that all the residents will have decent and affordable housing.

Lacuna said that the city’s Current Land Use Plan (CLUP) was crafted during the administration of Mayor Lito Atienza.
“With the collaboration of the city and the DHSUD, what we are given here is a unique opportunity to jointly come up, not with a typical CLUP, but with an innovative and novel plan that gradually transforms our city from being merely livable, to becoming lively and ultimately to becoming loveable. The plan is for the premiere city of the country to serve as a model for other highly urbanized cities,” the mayor added.
